BS 8418 is the Code of Practice for the installation and remote monitoring of detector activated CCTV systems. It sets out recommendations on best practices for the design, installation, commissioning and operation of detector activated CCTV systems. Only systems that are installed to BS 8418 can qualify for a Unique Reference Number (URN) which is issued by the local police authority to guarantee police response (commonly referred to as a level one response).
GB Monitoring's Technical Director, Neil Jackson, is a respected voice in the security industry having been a key player in the working group which looked at BS 8418:2003. As part of this working group, Neil is currently working on the pending update to the standard (BS 8418:2015) which is set to be released this year.
GB Monitoring were responsible for monitoring some of the first BS 8418 compliant CCTV systems in the country and as a result we have extensive experience and knowledge in this area.
In addition to the general benefits that remotely monitored CCTV can bring (click here to view a full summary), a BS 8418 CCTV monitoring system will enable the constant and efficient monitoring of any premises, with the client being assured of a level one response from the police or responding authority.
