Case Study - Bifrangi

Industrial - ADPRO System

Weston Hills School

Italian company Bifrangi, have an impressive history of working steel and at their 20 acre site in Lincoln they are forge making crank shafts and engine components for the aircraft industry.

Their security providerhad been using manned guarding on this site since 1999 and were responsible for manning the gatehouse, as well as operating the telephone, barrier and weigh bridge. Due to the value of the product on site there were four instances of theft of Titanium (a loss of up to £250,000 each time), where the intruders used force on a number of occasions to break through the barriers.

To overcome this problem the company and security provider decided on a remote guard to support the guard during the day and take complete control of the site during the night. This approach would significantly improve site security and reduce the cost of the service.

Following a site visit to review the situation, rising kerb blocks and automated gates were installed to provide an air lock entry system. The gates would be closed behind the vehicle before the kerbs were lowered, the opposite on exiting. Removable bollards were erected at the side of the air lock to avoid vehicles coming in side by side. In the event of a large vehicle entering site the Guard overrides the air lock with a key and pin lock, the system reverting back, once the vehicle has moved on.

Staff use the pedestrian gate, presenting proximity tags which are programmed for roll call muster and time of attendance for accounts payroll. Misuse of the tags is prevented by the activation of live CCTV recording when the tag is used. Intercom systems are installed at the pedestrian gate and barrier.

The guard has full control of the cameras, using a touch screen to move around the site, directing the dome cameras as necessary. During the daytime the site is also being monitored, and can be operated from our Control Centre. The guard has instant support if needed, as both parties can operate the system simultaneously.

When the guard’s daytime shift finishes, the GB Monitoring takes over sole control of the whole site (including access and cameras, arming perimeter detectors for additional cover). In the event of any activity, audible warnings are issued and the security providers mobile patrol is called. Police response will also be utilised if required.

The company is very happy with the service and further orders have been placed for additional access control systems, and for a fire alarm system which will be linked into the CCTV system, providing a complete integrated security system for the customer, with an estimated 60% cost saving over their original annual spend.
